The Defensive Handgun program goes beyond the "when to shoot" of a concealed carry class and focuses on the skills you need to shoot effectively when the time comes. If your intent in carrying a firearm is armed self-defense, this fast paced high intensity course is for you. It will enhance your ability to shoot a handgun with speed and accuracy under the stress of a life or death encounter.

The course is designed to introduce the student to the skills required to function at the outer limits of handgun performance.

Throughout the course the history and evolution of the techniques presented will be discussed and the reasons for the variation of these advanced techniques from their traditional counterparts will be presented.

Topics include human response to stress, psycho-physiological effects of violent encounters, point-shooting, indexed shooting, aimed shooting, handling multiple adversaries, shooting for speed (6 rounds in 1 second) and accuracy, advanced tactics, shooting from cover, combat and tactical speed reloading, standing, kneeling, prone, combat and competition barricade, returning fire when injured, and the survival mindset .

 

Course Length: 16-20 Hours

Optional Text: Stressfire, Massad F. Ayoob

Equipment Required: 600 rounds ammunition (for each course), duty/carry holster, flashlight, three magazines/speed loaders and eye/ear protection. Body armor strongly encouraged.

 

Student Eligibility: Current commissioned peace officers, current CHL holders, currently commissioned security guards and civilians with proof of clean criminal history.

Discounts available for peace officers and groups of 5 or more.

On-site in-service training available for law enforcement agencies.

All course participants will be required to submit proof of good character in accordance with DTG Policies
